Apple: Don’t believe everything our ads tell you
By admin • Dec 4th, 2008 • Category: Apple, iPhoneIn a previous post, we showed you an ad by Apple that was banned in the U.K. due to complaints of false advertising.
In the U.S., a man has made similar claims, but instead of simply making a complaint, he’s taking Apple to court.
According to Wired.com, 70-year-old William Gillis from San Diego filed a 22-page complaint in court alleging that Apple intentionally misled the public by making claims that the iPhone 3G was “twice as fast for half the price” when compared to the original iPhone.
While Apple defended their ads in the U.K., saying that the claims were “relative rather than absolute”. In the company’s response to the U.S. case, Apple pretty much says that its ads aren’t works of nonfiction, and anyone who believes them is an idiot.
“Plaintiff’s claims, and those of the purported class, are barred by the fact that the alleged deceptive statements were such that no reasonable person in Plaintiff’s position could have reasonably relied on or misunderstood Apple’s statements as claims of fact,” said Apple in a legal document containing its response to the Gillis claims.
